Jeremy Bradford Cook Jackson was born on November 13, 1942. He graduated in 1971 from Yale University receiving his Ph.D. in Geology but over the last decades and based on his intensive and focused research he has become the first historical ecologist of the marine ecosystems; a field created by himself. He is a "Darwin in reverse", in a sense that his conclusions about the near future are presenting an abominable merging of oxygen-starving dead zones. This means, oceans without fish, no more coral reefs communities neither; forget about those oils spills, tsunamis or hurricanes; he is pointing to human activities as the major cause of our present pollution, and evident as devastating climate change, one of such "human" activities is overfishing. 

Jeremy Jackson is a extraordinary communicator, a distinguished and honored professor and researcher, a man with a "punctuated equilibrium" [as he has coined this term for his model of "evolutionary" change] who seems to be announcing the inevitability of our dignity as a human race at our finest "11th hour"; however, him or the Lamb of God [LOG is a metal group] would not convince Sarah Palin and others of her same 'stanza' about this rather obvious and insidious situation...

The Toilet of the Philanthropists or The Reasons of My "El Arado": Plowing the [North] Sea - "Right is of no sex - Truth is of no color"

After I survived, at this point I still do not know how well, a coward attempt against my life [12 days ago], I am documenting that I only will continue doing what I have done all my life pacifically but with more force and assertiveness, i.e., to express my ideas not to impose them but to share them with others.

I will continue providing my analysis and interpretations based upon rationality and my objective search for truth, justice, and equal opportunity because as Frederick Douglass would say: "Right is of no sex - Truth is of no Color".

My friends and those who so gratuitously have chosen me as their enemy for whatever reason, I will never support any act of terrorism for whatever cause, because there is not justification for such acts. There is not religion that support those lunatic behaviors, no matter what they have told you or what have you read. But terrorism has adopted many shapes and forms lately, now it is used by the "ultra-leftist" as by the "ultra-rightist", there are internal o domestic groups and external groups. It does not matter, if these people would profess different creed, are of different race and/or upbringing, they all have something tremendously ugly in common, they hate our way of life; they want us to live as they live and under their rules or else... These kind of people are able to act in proportion to their hate, but in reality is all about their convenience.

Who are these people? For one thing, we mostly right, they are extremists, but no always, there are also gangs with no other life or motivation than find jobs to each other or to preserve certain amount of dollars flowing in the direction of their pockets. There are militias out there too, which hold the idea, in part, that because they are white and supremacists all the rest of us have to be living at their bottom or better off if we were not able to exist at all. Nevertheless, as we all know, there are people that are extremely rich, they are not terrorists though but because their pretenses [they] are exacerbating the whole situation, we called them sometimes philanthropists, but in reality are people that are choosing what types of research and development must be conducted, how, when and by who must be implemented, and from whom must be done. The effect is devastating not only for Africa but for all the children and the rest of household's members in America and in the world.

Now that, we are under the leadership of President Obama, and so we are taking a much closer look to those financial institutions, it is time to change the landscape of how lobbyists are working on Capital Hill and for the most part against the interest of the people as a whole. It is time to take a even closer look at those "oracles" whether if they were from Omaha or not. For me many "Philanthropists" look like gamblers, pimps and gangsters rather than entrepreneurs or businessmen. Yes, those Warren-Buffets, those Bill-Gates, those Steve-Jobses, the Steve-Ballmers, and all other Blombergs.

These people are only interested in power, and are motivated mainly but not only by greedy, arrogance and boredom. They are only focused on how they can become fatter money-wise and more famous; they do care less about other people. Oh! the biggest foundation of the Galaxy? Billions of dollars donated in software? All that jazz is simply baloney...

The time has come to let other more able people than these 'celebrities of clay' to decide where those moneys or funds go and for what cause or end. One tiny little brain with two eyeballs behind magnified glasses, or a group of prejudiced and narcissistic birds, more properly stated ravens, of the same type of hungriness never were able to build the strongest Union in the Universe, the United States of America; they are only profiting from the hard work, blood, tears and sweat of the People who did it, the real pioneers that build this country, like Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, et al. In fact they are destroying America and, America since its beginning never was about making money if not making a space whereby liberty, justice and peace can be achieved. Ask what freedom means by visiting Plymouth, then.

I am Sorry, but their billions and their so-giving as their tuxedos do not impressed me or mean anything for me; because I know that they are not doing what many Americans are enduring everyday. They are only exploiting what others have done and do. Look what has happened with the Apple Inc. for instance, they moved their plants or factories out of USA and went to China. Why? Because the simple reason of ship labor, and here in USA, now we have no work, almost 11% of the population is unemployed, in some states these figures are even worst. Who are the people of and in China who are being paid for Apple's labor? It does not matter, perhaps they are overworked, who knows, they could be even minors or children and be as badly treated as underpaid; it does really not matter for the pancreas of Steve Jobs, who is really dying out-there because the inhumane working conditions to made our iPads, iTouchs or iPhones, what matter is that Apple Inc., makes more money because the line at the bottom should be many times brightly blue.

Look, "beings of the foreground" and "vanity affairs", please understand "Socialite of Miserable" you have enough money already, Forbes and the people who read that magazine know how much money you have or seem to have. It is time for you to move on in other direction, you are not precisely messiahs, most likely you are people with hard and profound personal and social problems, perhaps you need our attention but I tell you people look at you and contemplate what you really are: "The freaks of Greedy" and that is all. Therefore, you people leave your social benefits, it is time that you stop to make "profits" from the non-profit organizations.

It time to stop those foundations and how they are able to function legally; the congress should put those funds and moneys to work for our governmental agencies, for our people, for the people that [those funds] are intended to help in the first place and that are being acculturated into the belief that these ruin people are the holy patrons of the world. This is very far from truth, these people are crooks as they have they jaws as big as crocodiles and their bellies look like those of the hippos, hence their insatiable appetite.

Most of these people do not believe in competition or they do not know how to compete without cheating. They have their own definition of what free market is and this definition changes according on how well their "investments" are doing. Positively they give a damn for the State of the Union or the Constitution and its amendments. They never have been able to compete as they should and they never will compete. They seem to know how to sabotage, exploit, boycott, and form in this way monopolies and more lies around, and among them. It is time to review their underwear and toilets of these rich roaches. Better off, let them pay their taxes and no more foundations or tax-exempt money by which they can drive, no only our economy but also our lives in very crazy ways. We have had enough of it...

El Inodoro del filántropo o Las Razones de mi Arado: Arando el Mar [del Norte] "El Derecho no tiene sexo - La Verdad no tiene color"

Después de haber sobrevivido, en este momento todavía no sé qué tan bien o cómo me encuentro, un atentado cobarde contra mi vida [hace 12 días atrás], estoy documentando que yo solamente seguiré haciendo lo que he hecho toda mi vida pacífica e individualmente, pero con más fuerza y asertividad que antes todavía.
Es decir, expresaré mis ideas no para imponerlas pero para compartirlas con otros que por voluntad propia las quisieran leer o escuchar. Continuaré proporcionando mi análisis e interpretaciones con la racionalidad, independencia y neutralidad que han caracterizado mi búsqueda por la verdad, la justicia y la igualdad de oportunidades; porque, como Frederick Douglass diría: "El Derecho no tiene sexo - La verdad no tiene color".

Mis amigos y los que gratuitamente me han tomada por enemigo, a los que les caigo o no les caigo bien, Yo nunca apoyaré, justifaré o aprobaré ningún acto de terrorismo por cualquier motivo que sea, porque no hay justificación para tales actos. Para mí esto está bien claro y es categóricamente verdadero y en este sentido nunca cambiaré.
No hay religión que apoye a aquellos comportamientos lunáticos, no importa lo que se haya dicho, escrito, o mentido al respecto. Pero el terrorismo tiene muchas formas, ocupa muchos lugares y adquiere siniestras y meméticas envolturas. Ahora, está siendo utilizado tanto por los ultra-izquierdistas como por los ultra-derechistas. Hay grupos internos o domésticos y grupos externos de ambas partes, no importa, si esta gente ostenta diferentes creencias, es de distintas razas y/o educación, todos ellos, tienen algo tremendamente feo en común, que odian nuestro modo de vivir, y quieren que nosotros vivamos como ellos viven, siguiendo sus normas y si no lo hacemos entonces...
Estas personas son capaces de actuar de forma proporcional a su odio, pero en realidad es todo acerca de su conveniencia irracional provocada tal vez por celos, complejos o transtornos sicológicos o alguna otra cojudez mental-cultural.
¿Quiénes son estas personas? Por un lado, son extremistas, pero no siempre, por ejemplo, hay pandillas que se forman con otra motivación, la pobreza; entonces hacen todo lo posible para encontrar trabajo o conservar cierta cantidad de dólares que fluyan hacia la dirección de sus bolsillos. Hay por ahí las milicias, que sostienen la idea de que porque son blancos y supremacistas, todos los que no lo son, tienen que estar o vivir en la parte inferior o mejor afuera de su territorio.
Por otro lado, hay personas que son extremadamente ricas, se les llama a veces los filántropos, pero en realidad es la gente que casi siempre elige qué tipo de investigación científica y desarrollo tecnológico debe llevarse a cabo, cómo, cuándo y de quién o qué población o segmento social. El efecto devastador es negativísimo, no sólo para África sino para todo los niños y el resto de los miembros de los hogares que forman y trabajan por/en América y el resto del mundo.
Ahora que, bajo el liderazgo del presidente Obama, estamos en un punto de vista más cercano acerca de las instituciones financieras, es tiempo de cambiar el panorama de cómo están trabajando los grupos de presión política en Capitol Hill y entender que en la mayoría de los casos lo hacen en contra de los intereses del pueblo Americano en general. Es hora de mirar más de cerca a esos "oráculos" que para mí habría que verles más el "culo".
Estos batracios más se me asemejan a los apostadores de caballos, a los proxenetas y a los mafiosos que a los verdaderos empresarios. Yo no tengo problemas con los que realmente son y han tenido, tienen o tendrán, poder económico o político gracias a su trabajo y/o talento, por ejemplo, para mencionar a algunos como: Henry Ford, Elbert Hubbard, Thomas Alva Edison, Hughes, a ellos sí. Pero no esos, como los Buffett-Warrens, los Bill-Gateses, los Steve-Jobses, Los Steve-Ballmers, y demás Blommbergs. Ellos sólo han buscado y buscan la forma de como pueden engrasarse más de dinero, ya sea por descuido de otras personas o por ventaja. ¿Oh, la más grande fundación de la galaxia? ¿Miles de millones de dólares donados? Pamplinas...


Es hora que otras personas más idóneas y capacitadas manejen y decidan cómo invertir ese dinero para que causa y para que fin. Que de buenas a primeras esa plata es del gobierno, ya que si no la donarían tuvieran que pagársela al estado.
Ya basta que un pequeño cerebro cuyo dueño por algún motivo ha almacenado dinero o un grupo de aves de rapiña con prejuicios parecidos y narcisistas, cuervos hambrientos más propiamente dicho, se adueñen de las cosas que les competen a las iglesias o gobiernos u organismos como la ONU o la UNESCO. Esta clase de cuervos nunca fueron, ni serán capaces, de construir la Unión más fuerte en el Universo, o sea los Estados Unidos de Norte-América todo lo contrario la están destruyendo. No saben más que aprovecharse de las situaciones. Son oportunistas, del trabajo, la sangre, las lágrimas y el sudor de las personas que han edificado la nación Americana, como por ejemplo, Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, et al.
Lo siento en el alma, pero tanto sus miles de millones como sus trajes de "smoking" no me impresionan para nada, porque sé que no lo están haciendo por su propio trabajo sino por el de otros, a base de explotaciones de otros que sí trabajan arduamente por su anhelos. Miremos lo que sucede con la Apple Inc, que mudó sus plantas de EE.UU., se fue a China. ¿Por qué? Porque simplemente, el trabajo es más barato allá que aquí en los EE.UU., claro antes que Apple y después que Apple hay muchas empresas que hicieron y harán lo mismo, ahora no hay trabajo, casi el 11% de la población está desempleada, en algunos estados es incluso peor.
¿Quiénes son en el pueblo de China a los que se les paga? No importa, tal vez son obligados a trabajar largas horas en condiciones inhumnas, quizás sean niños o menores de edad y mal pagados lo que ensamblan los "cosos" esos; no les importa a los CEO, más vale para ellos nuestras iPads, iTouchs o iPhones. Lo que importa es que Apple Inc, haga más dinero porque la línea en la parte inferior de la hoja de cálculo (sí otra vez la cal en el culo, sí para eso sólo comen) debe de exhibir el color azul.
Miren, ustedes tiene suficiente dinero ya, Forbes y las personas que leen esa revista lo saben, cuánto dinero tienen o parecen tener. Es hora de que dejen sus sosodichos beneficios por su supuesta buena voluntad y el beneficio con que amasan a las masas; es hora de que dejen de beneficiarse o lucrarse en base de las organizaciones sin fines de lucro y demás fundaciones que inventan. Es hora de poner esos fondos y dinero para que vayan directamente a trabajar realmente por y para nuestras agencias gubernamentales, para nuestro pueblo que tanto lo necesita, o para las personas que quieran y sepan ayudar en primer lugar.

Se está aculturando a la gente haciéndolas creer que estos malandrines son los patrones sagrados del mundo. Lejos de la verdad, estas personas son delincuentes poco comunes cuyas mandíbulas son tan grandes como la de los cocodrilos y tienen la barriga tan enorme como la de los hipopótamos. No creen en la competencia, el libre mercado, y el Estado de la Unión o en la Constitución. Nunca han sido capaces de competir y nunca lo van a hacer. Ellos parecen saber cómo utilizar el sabotaje, la calumnia, como explotar, o el boicot, y forman sacro-monopolios casi intocables y demás mentiras en su entorno, y entre ellos.

Es hora de revisarles la ropa interior y los inodoros a estas cucarachas ricas. Mejor es que paguen sus impuestos y no que haya más fundaciones en base a aquel dinero exento de impuestos porque esta gente pueden no solamente volver loca, a la economía del país más poderoso del mundo sino también pueden acabar con nuestras vidas y la vidas de nuestros propios hijos y los hijos de sus hijos. Carlos ahora vive en La Argentina, es un muy buen muchacho, bueno ya tiene más de 40 años y cuenta con tres hijos que según él lo hacen muy feliz. Habíamos pérdido el contacto por muchos años, y fue él quien precisamente a través de una de mis bitácoras me encontró.

Carlos no hace mucho tiempo que me envió este mensaje en una presentación en "Powerpoint". Ahora quiero compartirlo con Ustedes; sin embargo tengo que advertirles algo importante pero que no daña de ninguna manera el efecto positivo del mensaje en sí. La que lo escribió o sea, Regina Brett, no tiene 90 años de edad, ahora tiene 54 y cuando comenzó a escribir acerca de las lecciones que aprendió en la vida solamente tenía 45, logrando terminar su obra tal y como lo conocemos hoy en día, a los 50 años. Si pudiera vivir nuevamente mi vida. En la próxima trataría de cometer más errores. No intentaría ser tan perfecto, me relajaría más. Sería más tonto de lo que he sido, de hecho tomaría muy pocas cosas con seriedad. Sería menos higiénico.

Correría más riesgos, haría más viajes, contemplaría más atardeceres, subiría más montañas, nadaría más ríos. Iría a más lugares adonde nunca he ido, comería más helados y menos habas, tendría más problemas reales y menos imaginarios.

Yo fui una de esas personas que vivió sensata y prolíficamente cada minuto de su vida; claro que tuve momentos de alegría. Pero si pudiera volver atrás trataría de tener solamente buenos momentos.

Por si no lo saben, de eso está hecha la vida, sólo de momentos; no te pierdas el ahora. Yo era uno de esos que nunca iban a ninguna parte sin termómetro, una bolsa de agua caliente, un paraguas y un paracaídas; Si pudiera volver a vivir, viajaría más liviano.

Si pudiera volver a vivir comenzaría a andar descalzo a principios de la primavera y seguiría así hasta concluir el otoño. Daría más vueltas en calesita, contemplaría más amaneceres y jugaría con más niños, si tuviera otra vez la vida por delante. Pero ya tengo 85 años y sé que me estoy muriendo.

Volunteers are not included in these figures; by the way, the number of volunteers has dramatically increased over the last years, especially during this economic crisis. Our volunteers now represent one of the major sources of labor in USA because between September 2007 and September 2008, approximately 26.4% of Americans over the age of 16 volunteered, in one way or other, through or for a Nonprofit organization. This percentage has been almost the same at least since 2003. (Source: Current Population Survey, September 2008) . For example, in a thirteen years period, from 1977 to 1990 the number of nonprofit and government entities grew 21.2 percent. Now according to the National Center for Charitable Statistics [NCCS], it is estimated that there are almost 2 million of nonprofit organizations in USA if we add together the public charities, the private foundations, trade unions, public arts institutions, fraternal organizations, chambers of commerce, civil leagues, clubs, congregations and churches [governments and government agencies are not included in these figures, in spite of their similarities with the NPOs, because they are considered a different type of organizations altogether]. All these types of organizations have grown, and they are continually growing at a approximated rate of 7% per year.

The voluntary-Civic Model or “Today For You, Tomorrow For Me”

The importance of the non-for-profit development is reflected by the decision of the former Mayor of New York, Dinkins, to set up a building on wall street dedicate exclusively to the nonprofit sector; with this action the former Mayor recognized how crucial the non-profits have become for the city of New York. Anyway, how all these "non-money" or non-profit organizations have become so important for the economy of USA? How these ideas, or concepts have become so ingrained into a supposed [USA] all the way capitalist-centered system? Their evolution has been divided, by many experts, in four different and major stages or periods; therefore, let me introduce them in here, from the earliest to the latest. Once upon a time there was a young English colony which in one point would become the strongest country in the world. Do you remember the pilgrims? or Daniel Boom, the folk hero from Kentucky? Even before all this, why not mention the Native Americans? Yes, in those times there were not factories, this was the time when people knew how to help one another, live according to mother nature and, care from one another. Although, they did not have other choice either, because the government was not there for attending those needs that circumvent the individual means. Neighbors understood each other issues and did something to support one another, as Kropotkin mentioned, there was more mutual aid and cooperation that competitiveness and struggle, less "capitalism" or whatever, and more humanism. It can be inferred that everyone would have received "services", or aid, from his or her “proxy” samaritan neighbor. As following those lines, “today for you, tomorrow for me.” This was the time when you see people protecting others. Nope! This is not a fairy tale, but once upon a time, in a land that it was known as the "New World", this is America people not only believe in freedom, they also believe in helping each other. This period, this era, which can be incomprehensible for some people nowadays, it is called: {1st} The voluntary-Civic Model. This model comprises all those years from 1620 to 1890; yes!, just almost kissing the already consumed 20th century. Yet, life must go on, be changed and be transformed; and the American dream somehow needed to be awake . Therefore a new, as altered, era started when America was getting industrialized, and it was converting itself, perhaps without knowing it, into the world’s “juicy Lucy” o "Prima Donna".


America: The Beauty and the Beast - The Era of Philanthropic Patronage

In a time in which America was, both, the beauty and the beast of the Industrial revolution, we are told by historians, and other sort of writers, that there were all these people, with great and gigantic as ambitious ideas, who would create, at the time, the biggest monopolies known in the history of our western civilization. Thus, the Fords, the Rockefellers, the Morgans, The Fricks, The Carnegies, these families, and more of their type, developed a "helping crusade" for the arts, sciences, and technology, which appear to have helped to boost America’s educational system and economy in the infancy of the agonized last century. In reference to this era and, in his "Memoirs of a Revolutionist”(Paroles d’un Revolté) the Russian philosopher Prince Petr Alekseevich Kropotkin, then 43, declared, something that should be familiar for most of Americans today; he stated that the “Golden Age of the small farmer is over . . . He is in debt to the cattle-dealer, the land speculator, the usurer. Mortgages ruin whole communities, even more than taxes" (1861—1905) [Well, today the mortgages have almost ruin the whole world's economy]. So, “tara-lin and tara-lan", the foundations, mysteriously, started to flourished and showed-up for all over the American soil, and this was called {2nd} The Era of Philanthropic Patronage. If we like to put this era into a time frame and within context; it consisted from 1900 to 1920, coinciding precisely with almost all the inventions that are being utilized to wash our brains or create unnecessary needs, till today, i.e., the Radio, the Automobiles, the television (1927). Nevertheless, the almighty "Great Depression" soon would come, and so would come Roosevelt, with both of them a new era with a new deal for the American people would reach the USA.


The New Deal for The American People Their Rights or Entitlements

The government dramatically learned to support its people with Social relief programs and institutions. This period is called {3rd) The Rights or Entitlements. Starting on 1930’s and finishing in 1960’s. Franklin Delano Roosevelt (AKA FDR), who was elected in 1929, as Governor of New York, also was elected President; he took office in 1933; and up to this day, he is the only US president who has been reelected for tree terms,[in 1932, 1936, and 1940] because he was very popular. In the history of USA he is considered one of the best US Presidents of all times. He would die in office at the early age of 63 year-old. During his brilliant presidency, he would practically overcome two of the most problematic crisis in the history of United States: The "Great Depression" and, the WWII. During the most difficult times, FDR would say to the Americans and to the people of the world, "There is nothing to fear but the fear itself”, and I believed with his "New Deal" he never forgot the minorities, the workers, the people of United States, spite of the tremendous economical distress and the dangers and hard choices and demands of facing one the most cruel evil axis in the Second War world, and thus his mind, heart and spirit were able to identify and remember “the man at the bottom of the economic pyramid.” FDR, as a visionary, was envisioning a new turning point for the American society, a period that would change once more the dynamics within the evolution of non-profit sector, i.e., {4th} The Competition or Competitive/Market.

The Nonprofit Competition or The Survival in a Philanthropic Market

This final stage comprehend the years, from 1970 to 1990. Under this period it was not easy to get an education; the democrats had changed, perhaps because they did not control the congress anymore, it was a "Do-it-by-yourself” attitude. Non-profits started to suffer plenty of competition, many institutions were pungently doing the same thing, they were trying to attract monies from scarce sources; even though there were resources out there, they were not likely to be easily access.

All of this suggested that there were urgent needs to utilize proven strategic marketing mechanisms, with which the non-profit managers could address their sources of income, as their constituencies, more directly, efficiently and effectively. Although the nonprofit Sector still needs to relay on the individual willingness to share, the generosity of the wealthy, and on the federal, state or local governments funding to survive.

Conclusion

To illustrate the importance of the non-profits, let us focus on the present conditions in one social arena of United States: Its children. US has an average of 2.3 children per household, this fact indicates that these children are in need of human services Furthermore, it is a call for a proactive response. It is also one of the reasons why the non-profit sector has grown, and should continue growing, rapidly. The idea behind is that, no matter what the economic conditions, many people, equally, would not "make it". Some people just would have not the income, nor the skills or else, that could cover the cost of their living; thus the non-profit sector represents a way to provide services that some people could not have if this sector simply would not exist. The need for human services, the need for medical services or health insurance coverage, for the children and for their parents, conform only one facet of ours today’s social-fabric reality. There is the need of housing, schooling, jobs, training and, so forth. Now everybody knows that a country without children has not future. Today, even the almost erased middle class is struggling, and in fact they are being the main recipients of the most important social programs, even the rich have enjoyed, and still perusing, the remains of the welfare state, as Dr. Parenti would emphatically used to say. So with 632,000 (43%) Tax-exempt organizations reporting to the IRS among other non-government or non-business, churches, and the Government itself; we could state that new transformations should appear for the years ahead in the non-profit universe. I just hope that these changes do not come to signify an involution, if not a happy middle and harmonic term between, or if the reader wishes, among extremes but as we are sadly watching lately, the "extremes and the extremists" are becoming more, and more, unstable, not only in USA but elsewhere in the world.

Comenzaba una nueva década, y en Nueva York arreciaba el frio, las temperaturas eran más bajas que el grado cero, pero el viento ayudaba a bajarlas mucho más. Cayeron varias pulgadas de nieve por lo cual se veían los carros que estaban estacionados sepultados dentro de ella; la gente se movía como podía en medio de las tormentas, y en el medio de esa gente yo pensaba como aquella primera vez que llegué a Nueva York, "¿Cómo es posible que haya gente que les guste vivir dentro de estas condiciones? el frio irritante y el modo de vida ulcerante." ¿Qué sé yo? pues yo también me he quedado a vivir en Nueva York todo este tiempo. De todas maneras la vida que es dura en Nueva York se convierte más áspera para los ancianos, imagínense ahora si se trata de una persona de 104 años de edad.

Eran aproximadamente las 6:48 de la mañana del once de enero del año 2010, y como todos los días a esa hora, Joseph Rollino salió de su casa para comprarse un cafecito y su diario, pero ese día el destino le tenía preparado una prueba que lamentablemente él no podría pasar, Joseph fue atropellado por una camioneta cuando estaba cruzando la calle justamente después de haber hecho su compras cotidianas. Allí, al cruzar la avenida "Bay Ridge Parkway" en Dyker, quedaron sus 104 años de vida postrados en la pista, él resistiría unas cuantas horas más después del accidente hasta dejar de existir en un hospital Luterano en ese mismo día.

Joseph era una leyenda dentro y fuera de su vecindario, pues los vecinos cuentan que él se dedicaba a contarles las anécdotas que le habían pasado en su vida, muchos señalaban que tenía sus manos que parecían duras como ladrillos. Víctor, el dueño de la tienda a donde concurría Joseph, comentaba a los periodistas, que para él Joseph era como parte de su familia, y que a pesar de su edad siempre se le notaba muy lúcido y en muy buen estado de ánimo. Joseph Rollino, quien nació en 1905, iba a cumplir 105 años este marzo 19; en su mejores días, Rollino con una talla de 1.62 mts. llegó a pesar 155 libras de peso bien distribuidas, pues él era un dedicado y conocido fisicoculturista, hombre de fuerza y boxeador. Como boxeador fue conocido con el apelativo de "Kid Dundee". Todas las mañanas, nadaba, y comía en el desayuno avena, aparte de ser vegetariano podía doblar monedas con sus dedos y levantar 450 libras con sus dientes. Joseph nació al sur de Brooklyn y desde 1939, a la edad de 34 años, sirvió militarmente en el ejercito de los Estados Unidos durante la segunda guerra mundial; por sus actos heroícos lo condecoraron con las medallas: Estrella de Plata, Estrella de Bronce, y con tres corazones púrpura, después de que fuera herido en una de sus piernas por la explosión que causó una granada y salvara a dos de sus compañeros de una muerte segura. Al momento de morir, Rollino vivía con su sobrina.


¿Quién influenció a Joseph? Pues nada menos que uno de los más famosos hombres fuertes del mundo y que justamente hacía sus actuaciones en Coney Island, nada menos que Warren Lincoln Travis. A la edad de 10 años, Rollino sería iniciado en el mundo de los fierros como ayudante de Travis, y se quedó a trabajar con él por muchas décadas, llegando, en uno de esos días, a levantar un carrusel con 14 personas dentro de el.


El caso es que siempre hay un origen, un persona que te motiva o impulsa a hacer cosas que de otra forma no hubieras podido llegar a hacer de la forma que lo haces. En fisicoculturismo es así, Arnold se emocionó al ver a Reg Park, Rollino vió y se quedó a aprender por muchas décadas con su maestro Travis. Bueno yo, también tuve una impresión muy grande y me entusiasmé por el fierro, cuando me enteré que un Peruano había ganado el Mr. América, y ese fue el mejor fiscicoculturista profesional que ha tenido el Perú y lo sigue siendo hasta estos momentos, su nombre es: Hugo Labra. Aquí les presento un "TúTubo", en el que se muestra en un corto vídeo el envidiable desarrollo muscular que tenía ya en esa época, en los primeros años de la década del 60, el Peruano Hugo Labra, no solamente ostentaba, una gran masa o tamaño muscular sino que presentaba una inusual simetría, definición, vascularización y separación muscular para esos tiempos, véanlo:
